Africa visit

Liz has gone to Africa. I won't pretend she has gone to spend all her time exploring new products and meeting our producers. Our daughter, Lucy, lives there with her husband and our granddaughter. So, she's in Cape Town right now at Lucy's home. I'm going out in a little over a week and hopefully we can put in a trip to a working community on the northern border of South Africa. They are making interesting products that we might add to our portfolio.
I'll let you know how it goes. For the moment, I'm nursing a cold - no, it's not life threatening but it is a pain. Anyway, the weather here has done nothing to alleviate the chance of getting a cold. No wonder we have a swine flu epidemic. How 'global warming' held out the prospect of balmy summers - it's obviously not to be.
It's Friday again. another working week is behind us. Have a great weekend!

It's been a while

I'm revisiting blogs. I'm so impressed by those that blog on a regular basis and we are investigating the whole area of social networking to develop our new business - The Kikapu Trading Company Ltd (trading as The Kikapu Co).

Kikapu (pronounced 'key car poo') is Swahili for basket. Kikapus are used by everyone for virtually everything in Africa. Ever since we first went to Tanzania, we have loved Africa and hate the way it's been left to languish with corrupt governance and unwise aid.

Our daughter, Lucy, married a Kenyan, Jaimin on the beach in Diani (South West Kenya). They are now living in Cape Town. Jaimin's brother, Kiran and my wife, Liz had the idea of bring the Kikapu to the UK and doing this help Africa with trade not aid and help the environment with a biodegradable hand made basket made from hand harvested naturally growing plants. Check it out here - The Kikapu Co.

You can see the video on how Kikapu Reusable Baskets are made on YouTube here - Kikapus - How they are made. Check it out!
